Got out to the west for other reasons. In between things I was able to make a couple views that might resurface as base plates for furture images. I’d love to do a more focused western trip in the future. This one is in Canyonlands, UT.

This is a mockup for a new Pioneer Valley image. I can’t wait to get back to make this this summer. Haven’t decided if this will be early or late day, but had to do the scout mid day. In July this will be Lush!

Below, where I was.

Stumbled across this last week and had to stop. Made an exposure, maybe has potential for a base plate. Learned it is surprisingly awkward to walk on burned off marsh reed stubs.

New to this site, but I’ve slowly been adding to this for a while. You can see a selection of images and read some brief thoughts on the project page. The work isn’t about a specific place, though all my work is “about places”, in fact this selection spans the globe, but the feeling of a phenomenon.

Foliant (imagined term): antonym. defoliant

foliant [fəʊlɪənt] n. A natural compulsion causing foliage to grow where humans have not intervened, directly inhabit (i.e. edges, peripheral environments), or have given up inhabiting.

“Cotton ain’t the king no more, the kudzu is”, song lyric.

Foliant has nothing specifically to do with Kudzu, but this lyric encapsulates in one short line a feeling and sense of our relationship to our environment (small “e”) that I can’t say much better with words.

Working on a “new” project loosely named Some Other Places. The parentheses on new is part of the project process I’ll eventually write up. But for now here is this screen mockup of Casino.
